The SD Experience
When visiting the Farmer's Table you may find yourself dining next to a 1940 tractor, but don't let that deter you. The upscale yet rustic interior in a roomy space is part of the dining experience. All the food is from locally sourced organic ingredients that bring out the savory flavors in each bite.
For Brunch
The Farmer's Table offers an awesome weekend brunch. If you want to start your morning off with a caffeine, their coffee bar includes an over the top Mexican mocha and great latte. Or you could just go straight for the alcohol and choose from a variety of bloody marys. I just like the classic, but the others can pretty much be a meal in of itself. The butchers block has braised short rib, andouille sausage, bbq drizzled bacon and blue cheese stuffed olives. If you prefer tequila, the tequila maria comes with a bacon wrapped hot dog, mexican-style street corn and pickled veggies.
My go to brunch favorite is a benedict. And I must say, the hollandaise sauce at the Farmer's Table is probably the best I've ever had. The hollandaise can make or break a benny, so it's always good to know where you can find a good one. I ordered the turkey benedict which also comes with avocado while Nick ordered the classic with canadian bacon. They were both served with house potatoes. The potatoes seemed a bit dark when they came out, so I wasn't expecting them to taste as good as they did. They had a perfect outer shell, but were completely soft inside and just melted in my mouth.
For Dinner
As with most places in Little Italy, the Farmers Table can get pretty busy on Friday and Saturday nights. So I recommend making reservations on Open Table; otherwise you may be waiting for a while. However, if it is just a party of two you might be able to find a seat at the bar. When we went for dinner we met a friend and got seated right next to the tractor, which made for a fun experience. Our friend Daisy ordered the wood fire roasted chicken that came with brussel sprouts and fingerling potatoes in a roasted garlic butter sauce. She gave it a thumbs up! Nick ordered the pasta special and I ordered the natural pork chop with garlic mashed potatoes, red sweet chard and dried apricot white balsamic reduction. It was very good, but I ordered my pork chop medium well which was a little too done. I recommend ordering it medium or medium rare.
They have a rotating cocktail menu, so each time you visit you may find a new cocktail to enjoy. On the night we visited, we all loved the Bees Knees, which was rum, fresh lavender and your own honey stick.
